Bloomfield Hills Academy of the Sacred Heart Wins Division 4 Tennis Title

Bloomfield Hills Academy of the Sacred Heart had champions in two flights and runners-up in two more on Friday to win the Division 4 tennis championship in Kalamazoo.

It was the seventh state title of the Sacred Heart in the past 10 years.

The Gazelles scored 29 points to finish six ahead of finalist Traverse City St. Francis. North Muskegon and Portland are tied for third with 18 points and Grand Rapids West Catholic rounds out the top five with 17.

Both Sacred Heart’s flying championships were in doubles.

Seeders Marissa Nafso and Kayla Nafso won the No.1 doubles with a 7-6 (6-3), 2-6, 6-1 victory over No.3 seed Delanie Minnema and Caroline Rudolph of Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian.

The Gazelles also won the No. 3 doubles, where seeds Noor Simon and Angelina Kakos defeated Hannah Nelson and Brookie Tietz of Grand Rapids West Catholic 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

Traverse City St. Francis also had two flying champions while Clarkston Everest Collegiate, Jackson Lumen Christi, Grand Rapids West Catholic and North Muskegon each had one.

Alexi Lewis of St. Francis won the number 2 singles 6-2, 6-3 over Isabelle Berg of Sacred Heart. They were ranked first and second respectively.

Jillian Sodini won the Gladiators’ other championship with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Adrianna Krieger of Portland for third in the singles. They were also ranked 1-2.

Moorea McNalley of Clarkeston Everest won the singles crown with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lilly Bobrowski of St. Francis. They were the first two seeds.

The No. 4 singles title went to third seed Olivia Eaker of Jackson Lumen Christi. She beat Ann Arbor’s Erika Graham, Father Gabriel Richard 6-0, 6-4. Graham was the seed.

In second in the doubles, Reagan Nauta and Shannon Russell of Grand Rapids West Catholic defeated seeds Lulu George and Maggie Pulte of Sacred Heart 7-5, 6-2 in the championship game.

In fourth in the doubles, Marilyn Gaston and Greta Goszkowicz, second seeds to North Muskegon, defeated seeds Olivia Vallone and Karlie Kurlenda of Grand Rapids West Catholic 6-3, 7-5.
