The Gamecock Tennis community has played an important role in funding the new Carolina Indoor Tennis Center, and there are still opportunities to make a difference in the realization of the project by making a donation now. Former student-athletes, alumni, as well as other tennis supporters at the University and in the community have selflessly strived to raise the final $ 500,000 to complete the project, which will be the only indoor tennis facility in the Midlands. .
“This project will change the landscape not only for Gamecock Tennis, but also for tennis in the Midlands and across the state,” said the South Carolina female coach. Kevin epley. “Our programs have been competitive nationally and having this new indoor facility shows immense support for our quest to win championships, puts us on par with our peers and is already making a difference in recruiting.”
“The interior really shows incredible support from our administration, which has driven our programs not only to make it a reality, but to do it quickly,” said the men’s tennis head coach. Josh goffi. “With the interior we will be able to cope with any program in the country when it comes to facilities, which is another step in making sure elite tennis players see our program as a destination of choice. “
For those who wish to help advance the project to the finish line, regardless of the level of donation, Click here or call Jesse kasser, director of athletics development at 803.777.5451.
“This project has elicited a truly impressive response from the tennis community. We have developed a program to recognize a wide range of donors to the project, including a program for donors to benefit from the facility themselves,” said Steve eigenbrot, Executive Deputy Director of Sports for Development. “The Founding Donors have made a huge difference in the advancement of this project and as a result they will have the opportunity to purchase a subscription for regular personal use of the facility. ”
The Gamecocks needed an indoor facility to train and play games all year round in bad or “famous” weather. The new facility measures just over 55,000 square feet with six competition fields and will be equipped with scoreboards, changing rooms, public toilets, a sports training area for the medical treatment of student-athletes as well as other needs for teams and officials. The teams previously had four fields at what was once a multi-use facility shared by several track programs, but which was converted to the Carolina state-of-the-art indoor track complex in 2019.
While the Gamecocks will have priority access to the facility for practices, matches and camps, it will also be made available to others on a limited basis, including by partnering with the USTA by South Carolina to organize clinics that offer underrepresented groups the opportunity to experience tennis.
The indoor courts will reflect the quality and appearance of the Carolina Tennis Center outdoor courts with garnet courts surrounded by gray and will also have custom lighting designed for the best possible playing experience.
There will be seating for 250 fans on the mezzanine level with a plan to add more seating to the field level later.
The facility will be ready to play when the Gamecock Tennis teams return in the fall. If you are interested in donating for the completion of the installation, Click here.
