The Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the University of the West Indies (UWI) have partnered to launch a sports marketing course that will give students across the Caribbean an accredited qualification while benefiting from the knowledge of key Hero CPL staff.
The course was created by the Faculty of Sports at UWI and the marketing team at Hero CPL and it will give students insight into how a hugely successful sporting event unfolds. Upon completion of the course, students will have the opportunity to work with the Hero CPL team as trainees during the tournament.
Hero CPL offers internships every year that allow young people from all over the region to gain experience in several departments including operations, marketing and sponsorship. The trainees are fully integrated into the Hero CPL team and have become an important part of running a successful tournament, especially during a global pandemic.
The course will be run as a pilot in 2022 with plans to roll it out further in the coming years. The course will include brand management, developing marketing plans, public relations strategy, social media and digital content planning and many other aspects involved in a successful sporting event.
Pete Russell, CEO of Hero CPL, said: “We have always found involving young talent in the Hero CPL as interns to be a positive and rewarding experience and we are very pleased to be able to further solidify our relationship with UWI. by formalizing the internship program. with this accredited qualification. Upgrading next-gen skills is a big part of what Hero CPL does every year and this course takes that to another level. We look forward to starting this year’s pilot course and seeing this program grow from there. »
