IISM launches book on sports marketing

India’s sports management college, the International Institute of Sports Management (IISM), on Monday launched a book on sports marketing in the country as part of a series.

The first book titled “Business of Sports: The Winning Formula for Success”, written by Vinit Karnik, Head – Sports, Esports & Entertainment at GroupM South Asia, was launched on Monday by Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, Governor of Maharashtra. The book was published under the Popular Prakashan banner.

IISM was founded by former Indian international cricketer Nilesh Kulkarni. He has been studying sports management for about 12 years.

The book was released by the Governor in the presence of Kulkarni, Founder, IISM and Harsha Bhatkal, Publisher, Popular Prakashan.

“The sports business in India is booming. There is a strong demand for skilled managers and professionals who are passionate about the sport, as well as the business acumen to make these efforts a financial success. This is our humble first attempt in a series of materials that we plan to release in the coming months for the student community and industry at large in all aspects of sport,” Kulkarni said.

The book is available for sale in bookstores. It can also be ordered on line.

“Major competitions in the country have become great avenues for sponsorships, media engagements and other brand development opportunities. As business processes become more structured every year in the industry, I see the emergence of marketing sports as a topic with a lot of real-world applications in an Indian context,” Karnik said.
