As Amazon continues its sports campaign, Nike veterinarian Marc Patrick joins the tech powerhouse to lead live sports marketing.
In a package of major rights deals announced last month, Amazon landed an exclusive for the NFL Thursday night football starting in 2023. Fox has aired the games for the past three seasons.
Ukonwa Ojo, chief marketing officer for Amazon Studios and Amazon Prime Video, briefed staff on the hiring today. (Read it in full below.)
Patrick, a 20-year-old Nike veteran who was recently SVP at Beyond Meat, will report to Ujo and oversee the marketing of all live sports, including the NFL. The company has also just started broadcasting select New York Yankees games in the New York area through a stake in the YES network controlled by the Yankees. Amazon has been streaming games live for years as linear networks take the lead, but it is stepping up its engagement, seeing sports as a key driver of video advertising. Globally, it also broadcasts football, tennis and other sports live.
In addition to overseeing training for the live tuning, Patrick will also be working on sports-themed documentaries and series produced by the studio.
