Premiership Rugby has announced that a total of 29 positive Covid-19 tests were recorded among players and staff at three clubs during their last round of weekly tests.

The figure, which includes 23 players and six club staff, is a big increase from the previous five weeks, which saw only two positive cases.

Earlier this week, the West Country derby between Gloucester and Bath scheduled for Saturday was called off after “a number of positive Covid-19 tests” at Cherry and Whites.

Manu Tuilagi was excluded from Sale’s Premiership game against the Harlequins on Friday night after coming into close contact with an anonymous staff member who returned a positive test.

The latest round of results, of 2,410 tests conducted from May 28 to June 3, is the second most positive this season since 33 were recorded in the last week of December.
