Sports Marketing Central Class Pairs RiverHawks and Scenic Bluffs Elementary for Virtual Press Conference

Central Men’s Basketball takes on Westosha Central on Friday after the 1:35 game ahead of them for the WIAA Division 2 Semi-Final.

It will be a big test, but before Central left for Madison, they had another test in store.

Central High teacher Kate Olson has six Central basketball players in her sports and entertainment marketing class, so she hosted a Zoom press conference for kids at Southern Bluffs Elementary to play the role releases and pose questions to the RiverHawks.

Olson says it’s an exercise that can benefit both his students and those at Scenic Bluffs.

“We talked about the fact that athletes working at higher levels don’t really have a choice to work with the media. It’s part of their job, and in high school it should be the same, and it’s the same for this team,” she said. “Getting that connection with other students gives them the motivation to want to stay in school, to get involved in sports. Sports aren’t everything, but they can really create deep bonds between children and their school communities. .
