Sports Marketing Surveys (SMS) has announced the appointment of Geoff Zeidler as Executive Chairman of its European and Asian businesses.
Zeidler, a former rugby player and rower and current golfer with experience in big and small business, has been identified as the best candidate to continue the momentum in driving SMS after the sad passing of Stephen Proctor in November 2021. The appointment, which took effect June 20, was made with the support of the company’s board and trustees, including the Proctor family.
Rob McCowen, who has served as interim chairman of SMS since November 2021 and now returns to his role as non-executive director, said: “Geoff will bring a wealth of skill set to sports marketing investigations.
“Beyond a natural interest in the sports industry, he offers a strong understanding of how to run businesses and be safe, profitable and inclusive for staff and stakeholders. He was the nominee outstanding, and I really look forward to working with him to help move SMS forward into an exciting future.
A graduate and post-graduate from the University of Cambridge, Zeidler has enjoyed an extensive career in roles involving strategy, growth, finance and governance. He started with management consultancy Bain & Co, followed by nine years in M&A and corporate finance with Robert Fleming (now part of JP Morgan). He then turned to industry, creating the telecoms business at Spirent; as CEO of Securitas in the UK and Ireland; then as an advisor at Wyvern Partners. He currently holds various positions as chairman and non-executive director.
