Jon jones is now the # 1 new pound-for-pound fighter in the world according to the official UFC rankings. His only loss was a DQ vs. Matt Hamill in one fight he would win otherwise if he had thrown legal elbows for the remainder of Round 1. He’s defended the light heavyweight belt five times in two years and now he’s fighting the 205ers again! Alexandre gustafsson was supposed to fight Gegard Mousasi in Sweden, but a cut to his face forced him out of the fight at the last minute, and he just got a title shot instead. Logically, if it happens again, I guess we can see how Jon Jones is handling Ilir Latifi.
Toronto is hosting a PPV event again with two title fights. In addition to Jones / Gustafsson, Renan barao fights Eddie wineland for the interim bantamweight belt of Barao. There are still a few slots left to fill, but I’m sure if for some reason this map falls apart, we can all be treated to a UFC show featuring Nandor Guelmino.
Here is what UFC 165, scheduled for September 31 at the Air Canada Center, looks like this:
Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson
Renan Barao vs. Eddie Wineland
Myles Jury vs. Mike Ricci
Mark Bocek vs. Michel Prazeres
Nandor Guelmino versus Daniel Omielanczuk
Chris Clements vs. Stephen Thompson
Ivan Menjivar vs. Kid Yamamoto
