The US Rugby Foundation accepts nominations for the 2022 American Rugby Hall of Fame Class. The nomination criteria are set out below.
Applications for the 2022 class must be received no later than January 31, 2022.
The US Rugby Hall of Fame was founded in 2011 with the mission of celebrating history, honoring heroes, inspiring youth and preserving the legacy of rugby in the United States by recognizing and honoring those who have contributed to American rugby to the highest level of skill, talent and dedication.

The following criteria will be taken into account by the US Rugby Foundation for induction into the US Rugby Hall of Fame:
1. Distinguished participation or contribution to interschool, intercollegiate, amateur or professional rugby by a player, coach, referee, administrator, doctor, physiotherapist, sports media personality or journalist.
2. While each candidate’s rugby achievement is the most important consideration, their conduct and track record during and after the conclusion of their sporting endeavors will also be assessed.
3. Teams and groups are eligible for nomination and will be considered based on the difficulty and uniqueness of their achievement.
PLAYER: An individual can be nominated as a player on the basis of an overall track record and a career that deserves the highest recognition and honor. They must have demonstrated exceptional and unique playing ability, sportsmanship, commitment, character, personal integrity and personal contribution to their team, their country and in rugby, as it was played in their time and beyond. To be considered a player, an individual’s highest level of play (e.g., international and / or professional playing career) must have ended at least three (3) full calendar years prior to appointment.
COACH: An individual may be appointed to coach if they have coached in the United States at club or representative level for at least ten (10) years. Their passion for the game and for their players has inspired the success of their teams at all levels and deserves the highest recognition and honor. The coach must have an exceptional knowledge of the rules and tactics of the game and the importance of sportsmanship at all times. They must also have shown an ability to transmit these laws and tactics to their players who have translated and integrated these training lessons to create high performing teams.
EXECUTIVE / DIRECTOR: An individual can be nominated in this category if they have advanced and developed rugby in the United States, motivated people, developed infrastructure and earned the respect of their peers, club, union and its territory, and deserves the highest recognition and honor. A director may be considered for inclusion in the Hall of Fame if he has served at the club, territory or national level for at least ten (10) years.
ARBITRATOR: An individual may be nominated in this category whose career as a referee has maintained a continuous level of excellence, encompassing such factors as international and representative assignments, knowledge and interpretation of the law, ability to control the game and commitment to good sportsmanship. A referee may be considered for inclusion in the Hall of Fame after having refereed a minimum of ten (10) years at any level of rugby.
MEDIA: A person can be nominated in this category if they have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the field of American rugby (paper or electronic). Their commitment to rugby should have helped share and promote rugby to the American rugby community and beyond in a way that deserves the highest recognition and honor. The candidate must be recognized by his peers as having superior qualifications in his field and in his knowledge of rugby in the United States.
MEDICAL: An individual may be nominated in this category whose medical career has demonstrated a unique commitment to the sport of rugby, rugby teams and participants in rugby and has maintained a continuous level of excellence for at least ten (10) years who deserves the highest recognition and honor. Rugby-related medical activities include team or event medical coverage, committee work and academic publications and presentations on rugby safety, injury prevention or injury management.
Nominations should clearly state what the candidate has achieved on and off the field and the compelling reasons why the candidate should be selected to be inducted into the US Rugby Hall of Fame.
The American Rugby Hall of Fame Selection Committee will review the nominations and select the 2022 promotion.
